What is it

Immunodeficiency (ID) is a term used when the body’s inherent ability to fight infections is either compromised or absent.

This can affect various components of the immune system including lymphocytes, phagocytes, and the complement system1

Types of immunodeficiency disorder:

There are 2 main subtypes of immunodeficiency: primary immunodeficiency (PID) and secondary immunodeficiency (SID). In the last few years, the term ‘inborn errors of immunity’ (IEI) has also been used increasingly in the literature.
